guerilla radio

[vintage skirt and clutch/ Nine West heels/ Gap v-neck/ Rodarte belt]

Here's a quick update, seeing as I am swamped with weather diagrams and logarithmic derivatives.
a) I am obsessed with these shoes. They are ridiculously comfortable, and the cutouts remind me of butterflies.
b) I know that inspirational quotes are way corny, but I heard a really good one from Ayn Rand today:
"achieving life is not equivalent to avoiding death."
perhaps a bit heavy for a fashion blog, but a great thought nonetheless. It got me thinking about how I want to be more than marginally accomplishing things day-to-day; simple things like not procrastinating cleaning or putting off things I love because I'm too busy.

Pink Frosting

[vintage blazer & trousers/ Anne Klein blouse/ Nine West heels]

My favorite thing to come out of London FW so far (and possibly of FW 2010/11 in general) is definitely...

JOHN ROCHA
[The first and last photos are my favorites]. Rocha's collection is masterfully executed, with a very mature and sophisticated vision communicated throughout. The juxtaposition of hard and soft, feminine with masculine, and light with dark is subdued enough to not become hokey. The textures are a world of their own, and the cutouts expose just the right amount of shoulder and leg.

White Russian

[H&M dress, Nine West tights, Vintage clutch, XXI vest, heels, and cross ring]

[Rodarte jean jacket, XXI skirt, Nine West patterned tights, Target gray tights]

I've had an amazing weekend so far, these are the outfit that I wore out the past few days. The first is from Thursday night. I tried to vary my basic 'going out' uniform (baby steps, people!) with a preppy vest and high heeled oxfords. We went out dancing, and the amazing dj (aka my new bestfriend) supplied a constant stream of Major Lazer, The Bloody Beetroots, Dead Mau5, Mickey Avalon, and old school Britney Spears. I have no idea how I managed in those GIANT heels into the early morning hours, but I did.
The second outfit is from Friday night. I went to a house party of sorts,  a) which had amazing music b) had some kid in the kitchen who was mixing White Russians like it was going out of style c) I was having a great hairday ; thus, was a blast.  It was freezing, naturally, so I wore two layers of tights. I paired the outfit with my cobalt Aldo heels and Coco Pink lipstick.
Tonight I'm just taking it easy, doing homework while bloggin' and eating vegan carrot cake. How have your weekends been?!

On my way out the door

[vintage top, Rodarte cardigan, XXI skirt, Gap flats]

I am perpetually running late for class; hence the car keys in hand/wet hair. And yes, I'm wearing flats. A thousand apologies to the fashion gods. Though, they are amazingly soft kidskin coral leather. Gap has the best flats for their price bracket. And now, more fashion week 2010 ♥

PROENZA SCHOULER

Proenza Proenza Proenza. I love these boys. Besides being dangerously attractive they also happen to create daring and beautiful clothing. First off, the shoes remind me of the ubiquitous Sam Edelman/Balenciaga hoof boot (that will NEVER get old and I still desperately want). The boyish details are very in-your-face, as are the bright pops of color, and the reemergence of hunter green (hello? amazing). Great volume, especially with the coats) and again with the sultry cutouts.

RODARTE
The majority of critics were hesitant to lavish praise on the Mulleavy sisters, as they feel that their deconstructed/crazy layers/boho look is becoming one dimensional. A lot of the pieces were leaning towards unwearable, and one or two were lacking the natural flow of thought that has defined Rodarte in previous seasons. All of that said, I still worship Rodarte and everything they presented was still aesthetic gold.

BRIAN REYES
Colors & furs.

ALEXANDRE HERCHCOVITCH

Definitely takes the prize for most attention grabbing collection. Very opulent, reminds me vaguely of the Chanel Russian themed accessories video from like a year ago.

Tartes aux Amandes

[Theirry Mugler skirt, vintage silk cami, XXI vest and necklace, Aldo cobalt heels]

Hm,so aside from looking ridiculously creepy in the second to last photo, I adore this outfit; my love of this leather vest knows no limits. Luckily for me, the weather was actually warm enough to merit wearing it today!

Now, I could make inane small talk about my unending calc tests or how I loathe required classes, but I'd so much rather delve into a short discourse upon...
FASHION WEEK 2010

PREEN
The good: Oh my god, I love Preen. So well executed, yet still interesting and young. The under-the-chest cutouts and exposed shoulders were sexy in a complex yet understated way. The cutouts were making a strong case for "a new erogenous zone" as one reviewer put it. Moreover, after the endless barrage of masculine and dark fall 09 fashion, the palette of nudes and lavender was glorious.

WAYNE
To say Wayne's show was awesome would be an understatement, and I would happily wear these clothes everyday (that coat is sick). That said, I feel that this collection is one of many that is riding the golden wave of the "Alexander Wang, urban warrior super cool girl model off duty" chic from last year. The accessories were good, I see the horsehair bits coming around on purses and belts and whatnot.

CYNTHIA STEFFE

Another beautiful, but safe collection. I see this line being adapted for daily life really well. There's something magnetic about the prepster look when it's impeccably executed: bravo Mr. Kearney.

YIGAL AZROUEL

MARC JACOBS

Lovely proportions, great layers. I love the taupes and beiges (let's just pretend those first two sequined and spangled pieces never happened, MJ) But seriously. Love the volumes, the long skirts. The exposed ankle took on a racy sexuality, with a very wholesome and feminine overtone. I'm thinking Anne of Green Gables moves to the city and works for Vogue. The collection plays well into this season's pervading theme of fragility and escapism. Girls want to dress up as (or, rather, designers want to dress girls up as) doe eyed porcelain dolls, with an electric current of animalism running just under the surface.
